Carphone Warehouse continues to sponsor the popular X Factor talent search. The accompanying direct campaign, however, is becoming something of an event in its own right. Contestants were invited to participate in a web version of the show, singing into a computer mic or telephone. They were also given the chance to create an animated avatar to enhance their online performance. The final recording could then be forwarded to friends, uploaded to mobile phones, and - ultimately - judged by the public.

In a brilliant example of the media integration, the internet winner also made an appearance on the X Factor television show. Online entries were up some 400% on last year, with over 50,000 unique visits to the site. Encore!
